Wintery Fun

Because the snow is so wet, it slides off the roof. Well, we decided to help it along one day this week when we saw it hanging off the roof.

Hey everyone, this is Bill. I don't add very often, but here i go again. This picture is from a couple of days ago. A friend of mine, Geoffrey Wyatt, and I hiked out to a waterfall that is right up next to the Mendenhall glacier. You can see the glacier in the background. The wind was whipping across the lake which made the day more chilly than normal, but in the shade of the mountain here, we were relatively sheltered from the wind. This monstrous wall of ice that is behind me was the focus of my first attempt at ice climbing and let me tell you, it is hard stuff to climb down an ice wall. I got up about 20 feet and could not find a way down, so i just turned around and slid down the ice wall to the bottom. all in all, pretty fun. Thanks Geoffrey for a cool hiking day. much needed exercise.

The Many Faces of Marie

Marie has been very photogenic in the last couple of weeks. Above is her 8 month picture. She knows she's a big girl. She had just learned to sit up all by herself the day before (thanks to her bible class teachers Mrs. Karen and Mrs. Janet.)

This picture is Marie tired of getting her picture taken while wearing a bonnet. I bet Aunt Tammie remembers the last time we took pictures of Marie in this outfit. She fits it much better now!

Marie can play without Mama now that she can sit up and get her own toys. Although sometimes she's not so sure about being alone.

Daddy thought it best if Marie skipped church last Sunday. The day before she had a BIG snotty nose. She still looks a little sick in this picture, but she can still muster up a smile for Mama.

Daddy surprised Marie while she was about to take a bath. Please Dad, can't a girl have some privacy?

Marie Squealing

Marie has been making a lot of different noises in the past couple of weeks. She's definitely going to be a talker once she gets started. It's been only in the last few days that she responds to me and Bill with funny noises. Make sure your volume is turned up with this - but not too loud. It gets a little shrill!

She's a big girl!

We've been feeding Marie solid foods with her sitting in her bouncy seat for a while now. Well, we had bought a high-chair seat that attached onto a chair, but after we bought it we found out that it was broken. On Monday and Tuesday night, we were out at friends' houses when it was time for Marie to eat dinner. She got to sit in a real high-chair two nights in a row. She liked it so much that we . . . . .

. . . . . bought her a real high-chair of her own! She loves it - and I love it too. Not only does she eat in it, but when I'm working in the kitchen she can sit up at my level and play with her toys (or whatever it is that babies do to keep themselves occupied.) A big thanks to Rachel and Dana - actually it would be Isaac and Eli - for letting Marie use your high-chair. Marie is getting to be such a big girl!

Icicles, Sick, and Snow

When we got back from Wasilla we came home to an ice castle . . . well, maybe I didn't describe it very accurately. But there were icicles hanging from the roof around the entire house. It looked really cool. This is a picture from our front porch.

Bill found this really long icicle from around the back part of the house. It must have been at least 3 1/2 feet long!

On Friday Marie and I both had some kind of stomach flu. When we got Marie up, we saw that at some time during the night she vomited because it was all over her and in her bed! I felt miserable all day. Poor Marie vomited about 6 times, and that's a lot considering she's only spit up about that many times in her whole life! Gross, but funny - at one point I was holding her and she vomited on my shirt and down my shirt. We both lived off of clear liquids all day long. But today things are back to normal. Thank God those kinds of things are usually short-lived.

When we returned from Wasilla, it had snowed about 12 inches while we were gone. It has been snowing pretty constantly for about 3 days now. Needless to say there has been quite an accumulation over that time. I don't know how much snow everyone else in Juneau is getting, but as you can see we have nearly 3 feet in our yard! That's more snow than I have ever seen - and I thought I saw quite a bit of snow up in Wasilla!

This is a picture of Bill right before he buried himself in the snow and made a snow angel. And let me tell you, with all the snow we've had that snow angel was pretty fat! Actually, I wanted to get a picture of Bill standing in the middle of the yard so I could see how high the snow was on him. All the snow we've had over the past couple of days is still light and fluffy, like cotton candy. He said there was more solid snow under his feet that was preventing him from standing on the actual ground. I don't know when it will stop snowing, but I am looking forward to seeing just how much accumulation we really get!
